The best time to start Golden Retriever training is when it is still a puppy. A newborn puppy that is a few weeks old has not yet developed any habits and you can mold it any way you want, to suit your family and your lifestyle.
But not everybody goes in for a puppy. Many choose to adopt an older Golden Retriever as a pet. The training needs of older dogs are different from newborn or very young puppies.
Challenges of bringing home a puppy: If you are bringing home a puppy you have to teach your pet everything from scratch. You are virtually starting off with a blank slate. Just about everything from potty training, to crate training, to in-home manners have to be taught in order to housebreak the puppy. This means you have the 3 Ts of puppy training to contend with.
But, Golden Retriever puppies are so cute and lovable that the training challenges you face will not seem that difficult to overcome and will melt away in a short time. When you look back, you will hopefully have only fond memories.
